Don’t Make the Ultimate Mistake When Planning Your Big Day

Submitted By: Springfield Photography

Of all the decisions you will make concerning the planning of your wedding, undoubtedly the most important decision, will be who you chose to photograph your big day. Yes, the florist, the caterer, the DJ and the venue are also all important elements in having the perfect wedding day; that wonderfully romantic, exciting fun filled day that you have always dreamed of. When it’s all said and done, what will remain forever is your memories and your images - images that you will look back on again and again, images that will bring back the joy, romance and fun of the big day every time you look at them, images that will bring back those wonderful feelings you had in your heart and maybe even bring a tear to your eye, and of course, images that will be passed down to your children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They are truly be a family heirloom.

Unfortunately, due to the current economic conditions and the onset of the digital revolution, many brides are choosing to trust this vitally important task to amateur photographers who are lacking in experience, skill, and sufficient equipment to do the job properly. We have recently heard of many brides who have chosen a photographer who is either new to the business or is a relative or friend with a decent camera, only to end up devastated when they see their final images. While we are not suggesting that great wedding photography cannot be archived by hiring such an individual, your chances of having awesome photography is much greater if you hire someone who has successfully photographed many weddings and has many satisfied clients.

Just take a moment and imagine how you would feel as you discovered that you’re wedding images were terrible, many of the important events were not captured, or even worse, there were no images at all due to a mistake made by an inexperienced photographer. Your wedding is a once in a lifetime event. It must be done right. There are no second chances when it comes to the photography.

Also, please consider these other important factors. Wedding photography is about more than just taking wonderful photos. A wedding photographer must be aware of the significance of how his or her actions and behavior can make or break your special day. It is imperative that the photographer get the best possible images without being obtrusive and become a distraction in the course of this sacred event. This is a difficult talent to learn but becomes second nature with experience. The photographer must treat the bride and groom with the utmost kindness and respect, but also do the same with their guests. Nothing can spoil your day more than a pushy or rude photographer.

Due to the nature of wedding photography, the photographer must have a complete set backup equipment. If a camera, flash or lens malfunctions early in the proceedings, what then? Most experienced photographers will have double sometimes even triple redundancy of all of their equipment. Conversely, new or amateur photographers usually only have just enough to get by.

So what do you do if you just don’t think you have the budget to hire the caliber of photographer that you know you can feel confident with? First of all, do plenty of research. The financial crisis is putting the pinch on photographers just like everyone else. Many top notch photographers (including Springfield Photography) are offering huge discounts and some are even offering payment plans. Many would rather be working at greatly discounted rates than not at all. You may just be surprised at the incredible deals currently being offered.

If you find that even with the discounts being offered, your budget still will not allow you to hire an experienced photographer, make sure that the person you are hiring has at least shot a few weddings. Ask to see images from a complete wedding, not just their portfolio as it usually will only contain their best images. Also, ask to see any testimonials they may have and don’t be afraid to ask for phone numbers of past clients. If they have had a wonderful experience with the photographer, they will be more than happy sing his or her praises. And finally we have put together a wonderful article on our web site entitled: 7 Tips To Having The Wedding Of Your Dreams!. It is packed with great information and questions that should not be overlooked when interviewing a potential wedding photographer.
