One of the Most Beautiful Southern Antebellum Style Mansions For Weddings...Carl House

I had the pleasure of having lunch at Carl House in Auburn, Georgia with BB Webb on Wednesday and I have to say that this is one of the most beautiful antebellum style mansions for weddings in Georgia that I have seen - and I have visited A LOT of similar mansions in the 8 years that I have been publishing AtlantaBridal.com.

Carl House was built in 1903 as a private residence and ornamental plant nursery. A few years back, BB and Tom Webb decided to renovate the mansion and turn it into a fabulous event facility that can accommodate both indoor and outdoor events.

Prior to seeing Carl House on Wednesday, I had read a lot about the facility and of course I have seen lots of pictures both on AtlantaBridal.com and on the Carl House Web site. But, while the photos are beautiful, they do not capture the exquisite details in the 20 foot coffered, wood and tin ceilings, the elegant trim work, the marble flooring, the gorgeous fabrics and antique wood...not to mention the 10 working fireplaces.

Oh and the exquisite curved staircase that spills out into the ballroom is a detail right out of Gone With The Wind. I seriously wished I was wearing a gown so I could descend the staircase like Scarlett - but alas, I was plainly adorned in "business casual" :-)

Carl House also recently opened the third floor for bridal luncheons, rehearsal dinners and as a pre-wedding pampering space. BB and Tom were able to design this space to look gorgeous yet it feels comfortable... now that I think of it the entire mansion is gorgeous yet comfortable, warm and inviting... Anyway, the third floor boasts a slate bar, gorgeous buffet area, fireplace and 3 beautifully appointed gathering rooms. This unique space is perfect for parties of 50 people or less.

Now I have been going on and on about the interior of Carl House but the exterior is just as beautiful and the lush gardens provide the perfect setting for an outdoor wedding and reception. The back porch is also a wonderful location for guests to enjoy the Carl House gardens. Carl House has some great photos of the beautiful grounds and outdoor ceremonies on their Web site.

And although I only had a small sampling of the food prepared by Executive Chef John Carter, it was all delicious. The caramel cheesecake they served for dessert was to-die-for scrumptious - it literally melted in my mouth. I seriously had to remember my manners while eating it!

Carl House's prices for weddings are reasonable and competitive with similar facilities and offerings.

Take a look at Carl House's online Virtual Tour for some of the best pictures of the mansion and the grounds. Or, better yet, call for an appointment and tell them Lei Lydle sent you!

Hi Gary, Thanks for your two cents. You are right, Carl House is not an authentic "antebellum" mansion because it was not built in that time period. However, there are many antebellum "style" homes, including Carl House, that were built in the south after the war because many of the originals were sadly burned down.

You mention that this is an Antebellum style home...however it was built much later than 1864-65 which marked the end of the Antebellum period. I think it would be more correct to call it a "Plantation style" mansion. Just my two cents...have a nice day.
