Matt and I met on line through eHarmony. This was my third round of on line dating although my first with eHarmony. Our first phone conversation lasted over two hours and we met in person the next night. We had a drink, played a game of pool and talked all night. I was caught off guard when he asked if he could kiss me. I said yes before he could finish getting the words out of his mouth. I had a feeling he was someone special after our first conversation.
Our date went so well he asked me out for a second date which was New Years Eve. We went to Vine Restaurant. It was very intimate and we had an amazing time. We found out in our conversation that there were specific things we both wanted to do. How fortunate is it that you meet someone who has also wanted to go skydiving and go to Ireland. That was just the beginning of what we had in common. Our relationship came very easy for us. There were never any awkward moments.
Matt and I spent a lot of time together. I knew I loved him when I finally let my guard down and decided to introduce him to family. They loved him too. A few months into our relationship we went out to dinner as we usually do. We came back to my place. Matt sits on the corner of my bed and puts his arms around me. He then asks me if I will marry him. Of course, I say YES!
We are both simple people and enjoy being outdoors. Our favorite time of year is the fall when the leaves are changing. We decided to get married up in the mountains. A colleague of Matt's referred us to Brasstown Valley Resort. We looked at the resort and fell in love with it. We will be getting married outside, on the Waterfall lawn, overlooking the mountains, with the leaves changing color. It will be beautiful.
We are now in the process of planning our wedding. Through Atlanta Bridal, I heard about the Brides against Cancer, Tour of Wedding Gowns. I bought my dress at this event. There was a great selection of Couture and regular bridal gowns to choose from. I was fortunate that the second dress I tried on I knew that was the one.
We also have also booked our photographer, Melissa Prosser. We loved her journalist style of photography. Matt and I chose Rich Grove for our DJ. He is able to accommodate all of our needs. One of the things we like most about Rich is that he is a behind the scene DJ. He has a lot of experience and we look forward to having him Emcee our wedding. There is still have a lot of planning ahead and we will continue to enjoy this time together.
Our Wedding Vision
We envisioned a beautiful wedding ceremony up in the mountains with the fall foliage starting it's season. Lot's of reds, orange and yellow leaves on the trees. It was a very simple wedding. At this point in our lives we did not want a big production.
Our Bridal party, Best Men and Matron's of Honor were our brother's and Sisters and the flower girls were my nieces. I had two Matron's of honor and their dresses were brown. A beautiful dress they could were again. Our colors were brown, red, yellows, oranges. We also wanted to mix some Halloween into the wedding which we did through our favors.
Our Wedding Planning Experience
My first piece of advice would be as soon as you get engaged set a budget of how much you want to spend on a wedding. Then start looking at churches & reception sites, photographers, DJ or Band, Florist and Cake. Once you get these out of the way depending on when your date is, it will be smooth sailing for awhile. Stick to your budget and be patient!
Invitations, It is not always easy to print your own. I liked my invitations. If I could do this one over again I would order through a vendor. This is one less stress you do not need. My recommendation for alterations on your wedding gown would be to tell them that your wedding date is the week before the actual date. That way should you need additional alterations there is still time to make adjustments. If you and your fiance are going to have a special first dance and need dance lessons, make sure you start two months before the wedding. Have fun with the dance lessons!! Be sure you will be able to do the dance in your wedding dress. I was unable, since it was not hemmed enough. Although, I'm glad it worked out that way!!!!
When you have a destination wedding I recommend you notify all parties involved including vendors of events in the area that are taking place the day of your wedding. This is to ensure folks allow themselves enough time to get to your wedding. Make an appointment the day before the wedding to get a ninety minute massage. With all of the craziness going on take time for yourself.
For me planning this wedding was very stressful. The last month and a half there was a lot to do. If I had the money in my budget I would of liked to have had a wedding planner. I am lucky to have my two sisters who have already tied the knot and my mother. They were able to help me with this process.
There will bumps along the road and you have to remember not to sweat the small stuff. When you start to walk down the isle you forget all of the craziness of planning the wedding. You see how beautiful everything looks, your husband to be is waiting for you and once you meet him your new life together begins.
