Selecting The Cake Designer: Let Them Eat Cake
Written by Colleen I am one of those Brides that wanted our wedding cake to be a focal point at the reception. Not just a cake, but something to be noticed, admired and remembered. I have scoured books, magazines, the web, other weddings, absolutely everywhere for pictures that would give me ideas of the perfect cake and continuously came up empty handed and distraught. How would I find what I wanted if I couldn't even see anything close to what I had envisioned? If I had known ahead of time, that I would walk into the wonderland that I did at "Let them Eat Cake," I never would have worried about it for a moment. I am not even sure if I can relay in words how in awe I was from these cakes! I was completely overwhelmed with the vast array of colors, options, and the intricate details. I sat there gazing at the beauty and intricate detail on each cake. Every Sugar Paste Flower looked real. Every leaf had veins. Every Bow had stitching or a pattern. The cakes sparkled with a pearlized color, or had ornate pieces of "lace" draped on them. Not to mention the unlimited amount of options for flavors of actual cake, fillings and icing? We sat down in the room, literally surrounded by examples of cakes she had done, and there were several photo albums that I could also look though. Hundreds of pictures, evoked thousands of options. Catherine and I talked about colors, size, flowers, pillars, and shape. I also showed her a few pictures that I had collected. As I was talking, she started sketching, when I stopped, she had the cake I had envisioned on paper! I was thrilled.
She then encouraged me to look through all of the photographs and at the cakes in front of me to see the potential for additions that I had never even thought of before. Patterns on the layers, so many embellishments - How to choose??? Talk about yummy cake! We sampled several and all were excellent! The flavors are unlimited. And every layer can be different. Want a taller cake, but don't NEED the actual cake? She can add Styrofoam layers and cover them with icing! Just remind your groom on the wedding day not to cut them! Speaking of Grooms - How about the grooms cake options. Golf, Fishing, Football, a Specific Team, again - you name it, she creates it! How about Chocolate covered Strawberries that are decorated with white chocolate to look like tuxedos! Not only is Catherine extremely talented, she is a joy to work with! She offers excellent ideas and suggestions. She is completely flexible if you have any specific requests. By the time I left, I had a sketch of a breathtaking cake. I was giddy! I would recommend her to EVERYONE. There are literally hundreds of possibilities. It is so hard to find pictures and up to date styles. For those of you searching, stop! "Let them Eat Cake" is it! She is a true Artist. It is her passion. It is her muse. She enjoys every moment of making each bride the cake of their dreams. You bring her the idea; she will make it come true. ![]() |
